Womb III (video) 2017
To create womb III, I wrapped actress Barbara Barnes in a piece of cloth sprayed with paint to create coloured folds around her body. She shifts around inside the cloth, using subtle movements. This allows the folds within the cloth to constantly change and be redefined, creating new folds, and giving new and infinite definitions to the piece. Folds continuously flow and turn back on themselves mimicking the folds of the soul. This effect is enhanced by a voice over using an extract from the short story Colour Between the Folds by writer Mark Say. This gives the impression that the performer is thinking out loud inside the cloth. These folds draw the viewer into the work in order to allow the audience and the performer to share a common experience.
