The Maze of Life 2019

The Maze of Life 2019

An installation on the wall of my studio, consisting of 23 pieces of A3 Japanese paper - like pages that have been torn out of a book and placed on the wall. This work the gives the viewer a choice of how they would view and negotiate the work. The choices they make are very much like those we make in modern life, that are non-linear and increasingly complex. The work reflects this and highlights that we are in ever increasing circles of angst - whilst we are on the way to infinity at the centre of The Maze of Life. It expresses my own reluctance to spend precious time engaging in life’s unresolvable complexities that are like the never-ending levels on a computer game. This is a reference to the increasing confrontational nature of politics, particularly on social media, within contemporary society. In place of conflict I urge the viewer to stand still in the quietness of the moment and look at what we all have in common.
